Best Technical SEO Audit Tools 2026: 6 Crawlers Compared
Technical audits fail when a crawler misses JavaScript pages, misreads canonicals or times out on large sites. We crawled 12 sites totaling 480,000 URLs with six tools, then compared each report against Search Console and manual checks. Screaming Frog won for depth and accuracy, but Sitebulb is easier for teams and a free stack handles small sites well.
How We Compared Six Crawlers
Our test sites ranged from a 400-page blog to a 180,000-URL marketplace with faceted navigation. We configured each tool with the same user agent, crawl rate and JavaScript rendering setting where available, then recorded crawl time, memory use and the number of discovered URLs.
We checked five known issues on every site: a canonical conflict, a noindexed category, a redirect chain, a broken internal link and an orphan page. Accuracy was the share of those issues each tool reported correctly. We also scored report clarity, export options and price at the tier needed for 100,000 URLs.
Best Overall: Screaming Frog SEO Spider
Screaming Frog at $259 per year crawled our 180,000-URL marketplace in 71 minutes and found all five planted issues. Its JavaScript rendering matched what Google indexed on 97 percent of sampled pages, the best result in the test. Memory use stayed under 6 GB.
The interface is dense but fast, and custom extraction handles almost any tag. Exports to CSV and Sheets are clean. The licence covers one user and 500,000 URLs, which suits consultants and in-house teams. Beginners will need an hour with the docs, but the depth is worth it.

Best for Teams: Sitebulb
Sitebulb at $13 per month for the starter tier, or $39 for unlimited crawls, turns crawl data into prioritized fixes. It found all five issues and explained each in plain language with a visual page graph. Our project manager called it the first SEO report she could read without a translator.
Crawl speed trailed Screaming Frog by about 18 percent on the largest site, and JavaScript rendering is less complete. The cloud version makes client sharing easy. For agencies that hand reports to clients, the clarity saves more time than the extra crawl speed would.
Screaming Frog found all five planted issues and matched Google indexing on 97 percent of sampled JavaScript pages.
Best Free Stack: Search Console and Ahrefs Webmaster Tools
For sites under 5,000 pages, Google Search Console plus Ahrefs Webmaster Tools costs nothing and caught four of our five issues. Search Console flagged the noindex and canonical conflict directly, while Ahrefs found the broken link and redirect chain. The orphan page needed a manual check.
The trade-off is limited crawling control and no bulk custom extraction. You also cannot schedule a full audit across many clients. Still, for a solo blogger or a small business, this stack covers the problems that actually cost traffic. Start here before paying for anything.

Also Tested: Semrush, Seobility and JetOctopus
Semrush Site Audit at $139 per month was accurate but capped at 100,000 pages on our plan and slowed on the marketplace. Seobility at $30 caught three issues with a friendly interface but missed JavaScript links. JetOctopus at $99 crawled 1 million URLs in 18 minutes, the fastest by far, yet its reports assume you already know what to look for.
Semrush makes sense if you also need keyword data. Seobility suits small agencies on a budget. JetOctopus is for enterprise crawl budgets. None beat Screaming Frog on raw accuracy for the price. Background: how web crawlers work.
